Standing right across from the famous Cheng Hoon Teng Temple on Harmony Street, Xiang Lin Si might be one of Malacca's newer temples — but do not let that fool you, because it is absolutely stunning lah! Xiang Lin Si is a Mahayana Buddhist temple, and its story is one of transformation. It started life in 1958 as a simple wooden house that served as a modest place of worship. But by 1985, the community had rebuilt it entirely in brick, creating the beautiful double-storey structure you see today. The reconstruction preserved the spirit of traditional Chinese Buddhist architecture while giving the temple a grander, more permanent presence on this historic street. The temple sits on Jalan Tokong, which is part of the famous Harmony Street — one of the most remarkable stretches of road in Malaysia, kan? Within a few hundred metres, you have a Chinese temple, a Hindu temple, and a mosque, all peacefully coexisting. Xiang Lin Si adds another beautiful layer to this tapestry of faiths.
