Kampung Morten itself was established in the 1920s and named after a British land commissioner, Frederick Joseph Morten, who helped the Malay community secure land titles here. The village sits right along the Malacca River, just a short walk from all the heritage action in the old town, yet it feels like stepping into a completely different world. Villa Sentosa was built in the 1920s and has been lovingly maintained by the same family for generations. When you step through the front gate, you are entering someone's actual ancestral home. The house is a gorgeous example of traditional Malay timber architecture — raised on stilts, with intricate wooden carvings on the eaves and a steep pitched roof designed to handle tropical downpours.
